FHS Boys/Girls Basketball Golf Outing on May 12

The Frankfort High School Boys/Girls Basketball Outing is back this spring and will tee off at 10 a.m. May 12 at Frankfort Commons Golf Course.

“We had a really good turnout two years ago, so I knew it was something I wanted to continue at some point,” Frankfort head girls’ basketball coach Joe Marsh said.

“It gives people in the community and opportunity to see people in the program and connect on a different level in an enjoyable atmosphere. I also think it is good for the course, too. They have done a really good job of being a host for us. It helps continue to show off the work they have done getting that course back into great shape.”

The cost for the scramble, best-ball, 18-hole outing is $50 per person and includes a cart and use of the range. Mulligans will be $5 each or five for $20.Prizes will be awarded for longest putt, longest drive and closest to the pin.

“We would like to bring back a lot of Frankfort basketball alumni but also members of the community who have been so supportive of our program, whether it has been financially or by showing up and being a part of it,” Frankfort head boys’ basketball coach Nate VanDuyne said. “I think it is a great opportunity for both sides to be together on one day. I think it will be a really neat thing.”

Proceeds raised from the outing will be used on equipment for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball programs.

NBA teams paying closer attention to players’ wingspan

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Wingspans have become almost as important a measurement for basketball prospects as height or scoring. The NBA playoffs begin this weekend, and one blocked shot, steal or rebound can change a series or a season. The best defensive players in the league also happen to have extremely long arms.
