Hoosiers add Kane Wommack as new linebackers coach

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Indiana has hired Kane Wommack to coach the linebackers next season.

He spent the past two seasons as South Alabama’s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Wommack also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Ole Miss football program when Hoosiers coach Tom Allen was in charge of the linebackers.

Allen calls Wommack one of the “bright, young” coaches in the profession and says last year’s linebackers coach, William Inge, will now focus on special teams duties next season.

Wommack fills the recently created 10th spot on Indiana’s coaching staff.

Chicago Blackhawks place defenseman Franson on waivers

A person with direct knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press that the Chicago Blackhawks have placed veteran defenseman Cody Franson on waivers.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity on Monday because the Blackhawks did not announce the move made a day after Franson did not play in a 4-1 victory over Edmonton.

Franson had played in the four previous games after missing seven with an upper-body injury.

The ninth-year player from Surrey, British Columbia, signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Chicago just before the start of the season in October.

He has one goal and seven points in 23 games.

The Blackhawks also recalled forward Tomas Jurco from Rockford, their American Hockey League affiliate, and demoted forward John Hayden.

Jurco ranks second among Rockford scorers with 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists).

The NFL announced Monday that the pop star will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the game on Feb. 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Justin Timberlake is set to headline the halftime show.

The Super Bowl will air live on NBC.

Pink released her seventh studio album, “Beautiful Trauma,” in October.

Its lead single, “What About Us,” is nominated for a Grammy this month.

The Grammy- and Emmy-winning singer’s hits include “So What,” ‘’Get the Party Started” and “Just Give Me a Reason.”
